Dispensing

There is a dispensary located within the Surgery. We dispense medications directly to patients, if they live more than 1.6km (approximately 1 mile) from a Pharmacy. Pease be aware this is a government rule.

Our dispensary operates a service called Advanced Dispensing.

What does this mean to you?

Each time you collect your prescription, we will ask you to place your order for the following month. This allows the team to review your items and manage stock throughout the month, helping to prevent missed items and any delays in receiving your prescription. You will be given a date of when to collect your next medications.

What we need from you

If someone else is collecting your prescription, please make sure they are aware of what repeat medication you will need next month.

If you see a doctor or nurse and you need an urgent script for today, if you are a dispensing patient we will still be able to provide this.

Pharmacy Prescriptions

The easiest way to order repeat prescriptions is:

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • bring the paper form to the Surgery
  • post it with a stamped addressed envelope

Prescriptions for medication that you may have had before but are not on your repeat prescription cannot be issued routinely as above. You may request it by Anima so your request can be reviewed and authorised by your doctor.

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Please call your phacmacy for updates on the status of your prescription or you can track your prescription via National Patient Prescription Tracking Service on your NHS App.

NHS England is responsible for the National Patient Prescription Tracking Service and the NHS App.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP Surgery about your prescription please submit an Anima or call us on 01638 713109 to book a telephone call with one of our pharmacists.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, you will have an annual medication review with one of our Surgery pharmacists. This will usually be done via the telephone.

It is important that you are aware of why you take your medications, and that we are aware of any side effects; it is also very important that the medication you take is actually working.

Some medications may require more frequent reviews.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
