Referrals

Self-referrals

Most referrals to other specialists will require you speaking with a GP. However, there are a number of services locally that you are able to make self-referrals to. These include self-referrals for:

Talking therapies

Talking therapies - NHS or psychological therapies, are effective and confidential treatments delivered by fully trained and accredited NHS practitioners. They can help with common mental health problems like stress, anxiety and depression.

You are able to self-refer to Suffolk Wellbeing by clicking the following link: Mental Health, Wellbeing and Emotional Support

Alternatively, you can self-refer to Stop Smoking - Feel Good Suffolk  or Health & Wellbeing - Forest Heath PCN

GP Referrals

Referrals are sent by the Surgery in different ways depending on the service/ Hospital.

Some referrals may be sent electronically through a system called e-Referral Service. To track your e-Referral, please click the following link https://www.ebs.ncrs.nhs.uk/login

We do not get informed of the status of your referral once it has left the Surgery, and so we advise you to call the Service / Hospital for an update.

See below for waiting information on the local hospitals.

Minor Injuries Unit

The Minor Injuries Units (MIUs) at Doddington, Ely, and Wisbech provide assessment and treatment for patients with minor injuries or illnesses that do not require emergency care at an Accident & Emergency (A&E) department. This is typically a walk-in service.

We may direct you to Ely Minor Injuries if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Acute wounds, cuts, and bruises (no long-term or chronic wounds)
  • Wound closure (suturing/steri-strips) (MIU does not remove stitches or clips)
  • Bites – human, animal, and insect
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Muscle and joint injuries – strains, sprains, suspected limb fractures (X-rays only after clinical assessment by a practitioner and only if there has been an injury)
  • Sports injuries
  • Minor illness – first-line treatment only (not treated if you have already seen your GP for the same issue)
  • Eye injuries – minor only
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) – females only, aged 16–64 years. (Urine dipsticks only if clinically indicated)
